Charlie Cook of Belgrave Harriers (hooped jersey) wins a 100 yards handicap at Stamford Bridge, circa 1912. On the far side, and just losing out, is the great Willie Applegarth. Next come Herring and Child. Applegarth, an Olympic gold medallist, set a World Record for the 220 yards in 1914 - 21.2 - which stood for 18 years and remained a U.K. best until 1958.
