1951 London to Brighton Run

Many have been the events held over the route from London to Brighton but the first serious amateur ultra-distance run on 18th August 1951 was organised by Ernest Neville and promoted by the "News Chronicle". Here we show Belgravians Arthur Whitehead (56) and Arthur Penstone (42) taking part in that inaugural race. The following year the newly formed Road Runners Club took over the promotion, but the race was still organised by Ernest.
