1940 Bels win The News of the World Road Relay at Wimbledon
April 20th. Due to the War a substitute London to Brighton Relay was held from Belgrave Hall around the roads of Wimbledon Common. Twenty-seven teams took part covering the 34 miles in eight stages of 4¼ miles. Five times winners Birchfield Harriers were among the favourites, but Belgrave ran out winners, never headed after the first stage and brought home by Tom Carter.
