1951 A.J. "Jack" Stirling-Wakeley wins the London-Brighton & Back Walk
July 6-7. Jack Stirling-Wakeley led from start to finish in this epic which began at Croydon, headed up to Westminster, thence to Brighton, and back to Croydon - 103½ miles in all. He led from start to finish and completed the event in 18 hrs. 46 mins. The 100 miles came up in 18 hrs. 2 mins. 58 secs. Here he is being presented with the "Hammond Neville" Trophy by Charles Eade, Editor of "The Sunday Dispatch".
